Functionalism and Marxism are traced back to theories followed by sociologists in the nineteenth century. Marxism came from the German philosopher Karl Marx (1818-1883), whereas Functionalism was originally extracted by Juste Compte (1798-1857). It was then developed further more by Emile Durkheim (1858-1917).
Functionalist hypotheses portray culture as a methodized system, which have a set of interconnected parts (or units) which usually together type a whole. These types of units are definitely the institutions inside society including the family, religious beliefs and education. These institutions are essential for maintaining that society performs harmoniously and orderly.
