Katherine Nansfield " The Doll's House” is brief story that observes the class structure with the 1920s in New Zealand. Though the Burnells use the introduction of their doll's house to demonstrate off with their friends and exclude the Kelveys, Kezia is able to see beyond the constrictive interpersonal structure and invites the Kelveys in regardless of their very own social backdrop. An idea, offered in this story, that is relevant to people in the current society may be the innocence and imagination of youth in comparison with the cynicism of the old. This thought is proven through the use of discussion,
symbolism and characterization.
First of all, Nansfield uses dialogue to exhibit a relevant idea in today's contemporary society. This thought is the naïve attitudes of youth in contrast to the cynicism of the old. Dialogue is utilized to show this contrast throughout the character Cousin Beryl in " The Doll's House” to show the cynicism in the old. Once she discovers that Kezia has invited the Kelveys to see the doll's house your woman becomes mad. She
looks at the Kelveys to be the cheapest class and thus not at all everyone should be open in their house. She tells Kezia, " How dare you ask the little Kelveys to the courtyard? ” This kind of quote displays her contempt for the Kelveys which she goodies people relating to their class. Kezia can be described as contrast with her Aunt since she is a personality who does not really buy into class structures. Instead, she is in a position to look past and see the importance of the people around her. One of this is when your woman invites the Kelveys to see the doll's home knowing that this is something that she knows the girl with not allowed to perform, " That. You can visit our doll's house the same. ” This kind of shows that Kezia sees the Kelveys because equals. This kind of reveals the naivety and innocence of youth since Kezia shows an ignorance of the course structure, instead of Aunt Beryl, who displays the typical cynicism of the elderly who are stuck inside their ways and they are unlikely to change their landscapes of the world.
