Characters in novels frequently experience an epiphany occurring during their evolution through the entire novel. On the other hand, the epiphany does take time or may not even happen at all. This sluggish process is obvious in the novel, My Antonia. Jim Burden, the key protagonist in the tale includes a difficult time growing as a person. At the start of the novel, he's unsure of himself and passive whereas his good friend, Antonia shows a dazzling, passionate strength. As Jim grows in years, he learns but will not grow emotionally. Finally, as a grown-up he nonetheless displays a scared posture- afraid of the transformed that his good friends have undergone. Most of his close friends except Antonia swayed from the original lives they were likely to live.
